GoldSync as a Service with FireDaemon

Posted by Deborah on June 27, 2008

As I have found that Goldsync as a Service is sometimes unreliable – always getting stuck “Starting”, I have found that using FireDaemon to keep GoldSync process listening is reliable, inexpensive and offers the added security of not having a user logged into the Goldmine server to run GoldSync in silent mode. Here is how I set it up.

Posted by Deborah on June 20, 2008

If you’re tired of removing the hyperlinks from your documents manually by right-clicking on them and selecting remove hyperlink, there is another solution: You can stop Word from automatically inserting them in your documents.

1. From the Tools menu, select AutoCorrect Options
2. Click on the AutoFormat As You Type Tab
3. Deselect Internet and network paths with hyperlinks
4. Click OK

SnagIt Screen Capture Software

Posted by Deborah on June 18, 2008

We all probably know how to use Ctrl+PrintScreen to copy the screen shot and paste it to a Word document.  But, if you ever need to save a screen shot for instructions or manuals, you will want to look at a little program called SnagIt.

This program not only captures shots of the window but you can also capture shots of scrolling windows, menus, web pages and you can add to the screen shot by placing symbols like arrows or circle the text in all sorts of colors and adding comments.

Here is an example:

Zip Code Database

Posted by Deborah on June 17, 2008

GoldMine has a great feature that will plug in the corresponding city and state based on the entered zip code.  But, you need to have a good zip code database or you will constantly be asked to add the entries to the list of zip codes.

I’m offering a transfer set suitable for Premium Edition that will import 42,000 zip codes into Goldmine.

The file can be downloaded here.

This is a transfer set that can be retrieved through the Sync Wizard (Tools\Synchronize).

In Premium the Zip Code validation does not work on the New Contact Window.  I suggest when creating a new contact, you type in the Company and Contact, hit OK and then enter the rest of the information.  Your tab order should bring you to the Zip Code first which will enter in the City and State after entering the Zip.

Special thanks to Taarik Z. Rahaman, Business Application Specialist, Anton Systems, Inc. for putting this together and to Doug Castell, Castell Computers for showing the way.

GoldMine Taking Focus Away?

Posted by Deborah on June 11, 2008

I have been annoyed that while working in an email or even outside of Goldmine, all of a sudden, GoldMine takes my cursor and me away from what I was doing and back to GoldMine.  I thought it was the Process Monitor retrieving emails but it was happening on off times from when I was retrieving emails.

I found that what was bringing me back to GoldMine was my Calendar refreshing.  My Calendar was set to refresh every 120 seconds.  This is not the default setting for new Premium users.  The default setting is 0.  But if you upgraded from Standard Edition you may have had 120 as the refresh rate.

You should be able to change the Calendar Refresh Rate to 0 in Tools\Options\Calendar.  If it won’t let you, open the username.ini (mine is deborah.ini) and look for a section called [CalObj]  Find the entry RefreshRate and change it to 0.

How to comply with regulations for Mortgage and Financial Companies

Posted by Deborah on June 11, 2008

If you are using GoldMine for email, you may have wondered how to comply with the SEC/HIPA/Sarbanes-Oxley regulations.

Compliance for GoldMine is a GoldMine add-on written to allow GoldMine users to export some (or all) of the e-mail stored in their GoldMine database over to an Outlook .PST file. The main reason for this program is due to SEC/HIPA/Sarbanes-Oxley compliance. Someone wants to audit your e-mail communications with one or more customers. How do you provide it to them if you use GoldMine? Hand them the entire GoldMine database? Now you don’t have to.

Click here for more information, screen shots and to purchase.
