How do I set up an email signature?

Posted by Deborah on June 22, 2007

These steps will help you create a basic signature block that you can have at the bottom of your default email messges. You are limited to your font, size and colors. If you require more advanced formatting with colors and logos, you may want to look into creating an HTML email template. If you are using a default template for new messages and replies then this signature will not show up.

Start by opening Notepad, Wordpad or Word. Create your signature block and Save As with a name like JohnSig.txt.

If you are running GoldMine Premium- Version 8 -then you will have to add a tag to the .txt file, otherwise all the lines will run together. So for Premium the signature should have <br> after each line for a break. Like this:

Deborah Atkinson <br>

Solutus<br>

You can save this anywhere but preferably in My Documents or the Goldmine folder. In GoldMine, go to Edit\Preferences and select the Internet tab. Click on More Options. On the Composing Tab in the General Section, place a check next to Use Signature File. Click on the browse button to find the signature file you just saved.

Great site. Do you know how to use variables in a signature file? I have a few different people in a company who use the same template file and I’d like to have the template insert their signature file automatically OR have its own signature file with variables.
    Can you help me?

You can insert the sig file as part of the template using the drop down menu “Insert Field” and selecting Signature File. In the user’s email preferences you would need to have the signature file checked so the template knows where to get the signature text.

    Or,

if you wanted more information than just what is available in the Insert Fields for User Information (which comes from the User Properties) you can add anything to the user’s ini file in a section called [user_var] and indicate those variables in the template. For example,

    in deborah.ini:

    [user_var]
    AIM=nerdgrrl

    then add in the template:

    <>

    –Hope that answers your question.

You would change the font and size in your template. Look here for how to create an email template. http://solutus.wordpress.com/2007/12/10/creating-an-email-template/

  5. How do I add an image to the signature, like my logo? I can do this in Outlook.
